HOW DO I KNOW IT'S REAL?
We treat bullion security very seriously at Ainslie Bullion. You need to know that what you are buying the real thing. Here are some tips to ensure you are not exposing yourself to fakes:
It is important to make sure the item has as a minimum the following 3 markings stamped on it. They are:
- The total weight expressed as ounces or Troy ounces or part thereof (e.g. ½ oz) or expressed in grams (e.g. 100g) or kilograms (1kg).
- The item has a number indicating purity percentage. For Gold it must be 9999 (meaning 99.99% pure Gold which is 24 Carat) and for Silver the minimum stamping should be 999 (meaning 99.9% pure Silver).
- A market recognised company logo (e.g. Ainslie Bullion Company or Perth Mint).
Note all these markings are done during the manufacturing process of each item.
The validity of an item is dependent on the above stamped markings even though a certificate may be provided in some cases.
Note some classic coins, especially those used as currency, are not pure gold or silver. Examples include South African Krugerrands and 1966 Australian 50c rounds. Both have other metals included to increase longevity and are sold according to their known gold or silver content.
Remember to always buy from a reputable organisation that can ensure the above are present on any items they sell and will honour the validity of the product.
When Ainslie Bullion buys product from a non-known source we always test the metal for purity, to ensure high quality product for all our customers. Ainslie Bullion guarantees all product it sells.
