The Perth Mint is pleased to present the Australian Wedge-tailed Eagle 2026 1oz Silver Bullion Coin.
With its striking, distinctively shaped tail, the wedge-tailed eagle commands attention as Australia’s largest bird of prey—and one of the most formidable eagles on the planet. This awe-inspiring raptor boasts a wingspan that can stretch an astonishing 2.5 metres, allowing it to glide effortlessly across vast distances. Its powerful legs, cloaked in feathers right down to its talons, add to its regal and robust appearance.
Renowned for its endurance and grace, the wedge-tailed eagle can remain airborne for hours on end, soaring high above the sunburnt Australian landscape. Riding thermal updrafts that rise from the scorched earth, it frequently ascends to altitudes of 2,000 metres or more, scanning the terrain below with razor-sharp vision. Whether patrolling remote outback skies or nesting in rugged mountain ranges, this majestic hunter embodies the wild spirit of Australia’s untamed wilderness.
The coin’s reverse features the head of a wedge-tailed eagle in the foreground and a bald eagle behind it. Both birds are portrayed gazing to the right. The design includes the inscription ‘AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE’ and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark, together with the coin’s weight, purity, and 2026 year-date.
This is the eleventh wedge-tailed eagle design for The Perth Mint by renowned American coin sculptor John M. Mercanti, the 12th Chief Engraver of the US Mint. The coin’s obverse depicts the Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III and the monetary denomination.
The Australian Wedge-tailed Eagle 2026 1oz Silver Bullion Coin is presented in an acrylic capsule and for additional peace of mind, the coin incorporates an authentication feature in the form of a micro-laser engraved letter. Detectable under a magnifying glass, it is designed to make it significantly more difficult for the coin to be counterfeited.
