Struck by The Perth Mint from 1oz of 99.99% pure silver, the coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965 and has an unlimited mintage.
An iconic product of The Perth Mint, the Australian Kangaroo silver bullion coin is a striking tribute to Australia’s most recognisable animal. Identified by its muscular tail, strong back legs, large feet, short fur, and long, pointed ears, the animal has become a much-loved national icon.
This unique bullion coin series pays tribute to the country's definitive animal emblem that traces its roots back to the Guugu Yimithirr word 'gangurru'. From the arid interiors to the lush bushland parks on the outskirts of cities, kangaroos inhabit every corner of this wide, brown land.
The kangaroo takes centre stage in the 2026 silver coin design with a leaping kangaroo, surrounded by stylised rays of bursting sunlight. Inscriptions on a wavy-lined border include ‘AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO’ and the coin’s weight, purity, and 2026 year-date, together with The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
The coin is subject to an unlimited mintage, however, production will close at the end of 2026, after which The Perth Mint will declare its official mintage.
Unlike most Perth Mint coins these are not individually encased, rather come in protective acrylic tubes of 25 coins. There are then 10 tubes to a ‘mini’ monster box of 250. There is unlimited mintage.
The Perth Mint is Australia’s leading precious metal refiner accredited by the LBMA. Backed by the Western Australian Government, The Perth Mint has produced the official bullion coin program since 1987. The Perth Mint also produces a large range of high quality gold and silver bars. All Perth Mint gold products are LBMA accredited and refined to 99.99% purity (= 24 carat) and all silver products are refined to 99.9% purity. Ainslie Bullion is a Primary Bullion Distributor for Perth Mint.
Why Coins?
Coins are a popular choice of bullion given their legal tender status (Government backing of the coin and its metal content), often smaller in size (making for easier disposal in the event of large price increases), international recognition (no fuss tradability overseas) and portability. Another common advantage is mintage limits on many government minted coins meaning a “collectible” premium can often be realised. Caution should be exercised in buying coins over bars for your Super as they can be classified as a collectible and need special storage. Refer to the ATO or your advisor for more information. Coins can make for the perfect gift as you can match the year or Lunar Year to the recipient to celebrate an event.
