The Perth Mint is delighted to present this beautifully designed gold bullion coin as part of the Wonders of Australia Series.
Australia's vast and rugged outback is a land of awe-inspiring natural beauty, steeped in rich history and cultural significance. The continent spans a staggering 7.68 million square kilometres, an area comprising deep canyons, arid desert, lush rainforests, and stunning coastlines. Australia is home to between 600,000 and 700,000 species of wildlife, many of which are found only in Australia, making the Australian outback one of the world's most precious natural treasures.
Celebrating Australia’s wondrous wildlife species, the coin features a vibrant montage of outback landscape. The design showcases iconic native species including emus, eagles, a dingo, kangaroos, and a frilled-neck lizard, set amidst characteristic flora. The scene is enriched with elements of the rugged terrain—a tranquil watering hole, striking sandstone formations, and a radiant rising sun. Completing the composition are The Perth Mint’s signature ‘P’ mintmark and the 2026 year-date.
The coin’s obverse bears the Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III as well as the coin’s weight, purity and monetary denomination, encircled by a rich display of corals and flora. The reverse of all coins includes a security feature in the form of a micro-engraved letter within the design. Intended to make the coin significantly more difficult to counterfeit, it is only detectable under a magnifying glass.
Perth Mint coins come encased in a hard clear plastic case to help keep coins in pristine condition. Ainslie Bullion recommends leaving these cases un-tampered for the best preservation of value.

Coins are a popular choice of bullion given their legal tender status (Government backing of the coin and its metal content), often smaller in size (making for easier disposal in the event of large price increases), international recognition (no fuss tradability overseas) and portability. Another common advantage is mintage limits on many government minted coins meaning a “collectable” premium can often be realised. Caution should be exercised in buying coins over bars for your Super as they can be classified as a collectable and need special storage. Refer to the ATO or your advisor for more information. Coins can make for the perfect gift as you can match the year or Lunar Year to the recipient to celebrate an event (eg Christening, 18th, 21st, Anniversary).
